Maya Symbols

Smart move. Maya math is easy, but you need to learn the rules. As you already learned, the Maya used only 3 symbols to represent all numbers. These symbols are often represented by beans, sticks, and shells.

In Round 1 you will practice using the Maya symbols to represent the numbers 0 - 19.

There are two different ways to play!

Follow either the mouse or keyboard instructions below.

Mouse Instructions:  Drag the correct symbol(s) in the left gold boxes into the white drop box in the center to match the number in red above. A green text box appears when you have matched the correct symbols to the number in red. Click on a number in the blue Round bar below when ready to move to the next practice round.

Keyboard Instructions: Use the Tab key to navigate to the desired symbol. To copy this symbol, press the Space bar. Navigate to the drop area using the Tab key, then press the Space bar again to place the symbol. To remove a symbol from the drop area, navigate to it using the Tab key and press Enter (PC) or Return (Mac).

Note for screenreader users: Use your screenreader's "browse mode" to play the game.
